Cocktails: Hotel de Vendome in Paris

This is a fabulous hidden place in the center of Paris, just off of the Place de Vendome, where all of the major high-end jewelery stores are located! Stop in for a nice cocktail where no one will hear your secrets, and stay for dinner if you want something traditional feeling. You will love the comfortable couches and nice private feeling of the seating arrangements.

The Chanel showrooms in Paris are gorgeous! We had a great presentation from the CEO of fashion to our ESSEC MBA Luxe class, and we were reminded about a lot of things that are important for the luxury fashion "Dream Factor"!

Recipe: Fabulous Chicken Mole

Mole is one of my favorite Mexican sauces! It is a great complex and tasty flavor, achieved through spices and chocolate!

1 container of Mole sauce (pre-made or fresh if you are lucky!)
2 Chicken breasts
1 yellow onion, sliced
1 TB olive oil
Dark chocolate
Salt & pepper

Heat olive oil in a pan. When hot add chicken and onions. Sprinkle salt and pepper on top. When the first side is browned, turn over. Once that side is browned, add water.

Keep adding more water for a few hours until the chicken is shredded.

Hint: Once chicken is soft enough use a fork to help shredding.

Add mole sauce. Add chocolate squares as needed for flavor.

Serve in warm corn tortillas, with sour cream. Chopped white onion and avocado.

Recipe: Simple Lemon & Strawberry Summer cocktail

This cocktail is super easy and refreshing, and perfect for summer!

1 shot vodka
1 slice fresh lemon
1 strawberry, sliced
Sparkling lemon flavored water or Pellegrino

Put all in a glass! Very nice!

Recipe: Awesome Babbo Chickpea Bruschetta

This is a great appetizer inspired by Mario Batali's famous modern Italian restaurant Babbo in NYC! It is so easy and fast to make, and delicious!

1 C cooked chickpeas
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2 TB Olive tapenade
1 TB Balsamic vinegar
1 TB Olive oil
Red chili flakes (to taste)
Pinch fresh black pepper
Some finely chopped rosemary (optional)
Fresh crusty bread

Warm chickpeas in olive oil in a pan. Put in bowl. Add all ingredients. Let sit 20 minutes for better flavor.

Slice bread and place a scoop on each. Drizzle with olive oil if desired.

Hint: For the bruschetta base, brush one side of bread with olive oil, sprinkle with a tiny bit of salt and pepper, and toast oil side down on a hot pan, or oil side up in a broiler, to get a crunchy texture.

Recipe: Fabulous Moroccan Chicken and Vegetable Soup

This soup is fantastic! Spicy, wholesome, tasty, and easy to make!

2 whole chicken legs (with bones - legs plus thighs)
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 green zucchini, quartered, then in thin slices
1 carrot, chopped in small pieces
2 yellow potatoes, in chunks, skin on
1 tomato, chopped
1 portion of couscous, cooked
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp lemon juice
Salt, pepper - to taste
2 cups water, plus more as needed

Place chicken, onion, water, salt, pepper and lemon juice in a big pot over high heat. Boil until chicken is cooked.

Cook couscous separately - Put 1 cup of dried couscous in a bowl, add a pinch of salt, cover with 1 cup boiling water. Let sit until water is absorbed - fluff with fork. Set aside.

Add all vegetables and cayenne and cumin to chicken pot, and cook until vegetables are soft. Add water as needed. Once done, remove chicken bones. Add salt and pepper to taste.

To serve, place a scoop of couscous in each bowl. Scoop soup on top. Voila!

Fendi Palazzo in Rome

I recently visited the Fendi Palazzo in Rome and spent a fascinating day learning more anout the company and its products. The palazzo remains in use by the Fendi family, and is a beautiful old building in the center of the city, with modern updates by fashion star architect Peter Marino.

The bottom two floors are devoted to retail, with bags and accessories on the ground floor, and clothing and furs on the next floor. The other floors house the showroom, design studios, and fur studio. It was fascinating to learn about the care and expertise that goes into creating a Fendi fur coat. Finally, at the top of the building, the rooftop is a giant garden space, with amazing views over the beautiful old buildings of the city.

Bulgari Visit in Rome

I recently visited the Bulgari jewelry workshops, offices and original store location in Rome. The high jewelry pieces were incredible and it was amazing to see the skilled artisans working on the jewels. These are pieces that are unique and custom made - colorful creations made using beautiful precious stones.

The original store location is just in front of the famous Spanish Steps. The architectural elements inside the store are protected, and you have the feeling you are traveling back in time. There are cases showcasing not only the high jewelry, but also special museum quality shows with antiques and old drawings, and jewelry collections from the brand, such as a recent show of pieces from the Coin Collection, which are pieces of jewelry created with original Roman and Greek coins.
