Recipe: Turkey Mole Enchiladas

I think this is the best recipe I have ever made from Thanksgiving leftovers!

Ingredients:
-cooked turkey (shredded)
-pumpkin purée
-sautéed onion and green bell pepper
-shredded cheese (jack or cheddar)
-sautéed celery, onion and garlic
-mole sauce
-corn tortillas (softened over gas stovetop flame, or fried in oil)
-Mexican sour cream (you can make this by mixing regular sour cream with some milk to make it a bit thinner)
-cilantro
-salt & pepper

Sauté chopped celery, onion and garlic in olive oil - mix in turkey, add salt and pepper. Place in bowl. Add pumpkin purée. Stir in shredded cheese if using.

Optional addition: Slice and sauté one onion and and one or two green bell peppers in olive oil. Add to bowl.

Heat corn tortillas over gas flame to make pliable (or fry).

Cook mole sauce to taste (Hint: cook with chicken or turkey stock and add some Mexican hot chocolate bricks to make sweeter, if desired.) Spoon a layer of mole into a glass square or rectangular dish.

Fill each tortilla with turkey mixture. Add some mole sauce. Roll and place in glass dish. Once all enchiladas are arranged in dish, pour the rest of the mole sauce over, pour plain sour cream over, and sprinkle with chopped cilantro.

Cook at 350 for 45 minutes. To serve, drizzle with a mixture of sour cream and pumpkin purée.

Yum! Feeling very thankful this year for my family and being back in Southern California! Hope you enjoy!

Ron Nagle "Peripheral Cognition" Opening Reception at San Diego Museum of Art

Ron Nagle illuminated us with his ideas in person at the opening of his show "Ron Nagle: Peripheral Cognition" at the San Diego Museum of Art! It was interesting to see how he maintained his style using different materials over the decades - from ceramic to plastic, etc. I also really enjoyed his drawings! I loved his titles for his works which tended to be funny rather than the usual obtuse or "untitled" that you often find. The SDMA "Gallery Collective" young members group was there and we enjoyed delicious bubbly and a huge cheese spread - which I have really missed since leaving France!!

Brunch at the Oceanside Museum of Art!

This weekend was the annual "Volunteer Appreciation Brunch" at the Oceanside Museum of Art! We celebrated with mimosas, quiche and yummy mini pastries. Guests mingled among the large format black and white photographs of the new "My Sister's Voice" exhibition in the upstairs gallery of the museum. Museum Director Daniel Foster gave an inspiring talk, and we heard from some of the other fab museum staff members, as well as several key volunteers, some who have been volunteering with the museum for over a decade!

"Small Works" Exhibition Opening - Fallbrook Brandon Art Gallery

Artist Charlie Ciali judged the recent "Small Works" exhibition at the Fallbrook Brandon Art Gallery. We attended the opening reception and met the winning artists for each category! Chocolate treats hand-made by Plein Air painter Patricia Sablak were so yummy we wanted to try them all! And we loved seeing textile artist Noreen Ring's colorful pieces.

This is a great show to check out if you are in the North County area and looking for a unique holiday gift - there is also a gallery room in the back comprised of art that is exclusively $100 or less! All original works by local artists in various mediums and styles.

Brunch on the Beach in La Jolla California

Back in California for the summer! Of course the first stop after landing in San Diego, was the beach at La Jolla! I love the ocean view, the cute (and loud!) Sea Lions, and of course brunch at Brockton Villa (a historic building that was one of the original exclusive beach houses in the area, which has since been converted into a very cute and girly restaurant with healthy and very CA style food!)

Macbeth at the Armory NYC - with Kenneth Branagh & Alex Kingston

I attended the Macbeth production at the Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan with several friends and it was amazing!!! You really felt like you were in the play. First you met your clan, then you were led through darkness along a narrow path set in dirt to your seats by people in cloaks, holding torches. The set was massive and felt realistic - Stone Henge, with dirt through the middle, where all of the action took place - seats were on both sides going up. This was a super creative and fun production and I hope more producers will take note to create such an immersive experience for the audience.

We had special preview tickets, which included a reception afterwards with other young patrons of the arts. After that we mingled with the cast of the show, including one of the main stars, Alex Kingston, who was amazing, and probably my favorite character in the production!

Fashion 2.0: Big Data & Fashion

I attended the Fashion 2.0 event "Smart Data and Market Intelligence" at the Scandanavia House, where a panel examined big data and its role in fashion. A lively discussion was followed by a lovely rooftop reception!

One of the themes that emerged was that big data won't help anything unless it is smart! But according to Igor Elbert from Gilt, once you are able to slice into exactly what you need, even a large amount of data turns into a small amount and can become quite specific and useful. The most interesting concept of the evening was WGSN INstock, presented by Loree Lash, which is a trend service that shows retail analytics in real time to help with merchandising and buying decisions.

Music under the Highline

Cary Nokey @ Stray Kat Gallery, Thursday, May 30th, 2014.

Super engaging and fun performance! Singer/performer Cary Nokey captures the charisma, and mesmerizing stage persona of greats like Elton John or David Bowie. I felt transported back in time to stories of when NYC was "creative", filled with "freaks", and not such a glossy NYU and pop-ified slick landscape....

The Stray Kat Gallery is an awesome space, with giant windows and an industrial feeling, located just under the 14th street entrance to the Highline, next to Milk Studios.

And not to forget, the cupcakes were amazing!! I have been a hater of cupcakes until now! Thank you Konfections by Karrah for changing my mind!

Magnetic North Exhibition at UBS

I had the pleasure to attend the opening reception for "Magnetic North: Artists and the Arctic Circle" currently on view in the UBS lobby, near Rockefeller Center. We met some of the artists, and enjoyed a fun and lively reception! Sometimes it is nice to enjoy art away from the same likely gallery and museum spots - this was a great change of pace!
